           Fountain of the Virgin Nazareth April 21st 1839.

9 3/8 x 13 inches. Color lithograph from Roberts' The Holy Land, Syria. This depicts a scene around the only public fountain in Nazareth. It has been theorized that this may have been where the Virgin Mary drew water.Roberts was one of the first Europeans to depict the Middle East and Northern Africa. His lithographs won him wide popularity and fortune. They were made from sketches that he made along his journey.

This depicts an ancient tomb located outside the city walls of Jerusalem. The print  is one of the very few vertical perspectives  from the Holy Land series.
